Corinthians host Rosario Central at Neo Química Arena at 21:30 on Thursday in the Libertadores round of 16 second leg, with Venezuelan Alexis Herrera appointed as referee.
According to Meu Timao, Corinthians have never won or even scored with Herrera in charge, losing all three previous Libertadores matches. He has awarded a penalty against them and booked six Corinthians players.
Their first meeting came in 2020 in the first leg of the second qualifying phase, when Tiago Nunes’ side lost 1-0 to Paraguay’s Guaraní. The return in São Paulo finished 2-1 to Corinthians, who went out on away goals.
Three years later, Herrera oversaw the group stage trip to Independiente del Valle of Ecuador. Vanderlei Luxembrugo’s Corinthians were beaten 3-0 and exited the competition.
Most recently, he took charge of the 2026 group finale against Platense at Neo Química Arena. Corinthians lost 2-0, the Argentines scoring from a penalty after the ball struck Rodrigo Garro’s arm, though the hosts were already through.
In 2026 Herrera has officiated 11 continental fixtures and has crossed paths with Santos, Flamengo and Mirassol, with only Mirassol winning under him.
For Thursday’s tie, Herrera will be assisted by Lubin Torrealba and Antoni García, with Rony Cueva as fourth official. Nicolas Gallo will run the VAR.
