Corinthians and Memphis Depay have resumed talks over a contract extension after meeting on Wednesday, according to Meu Timao.
The expectation is that the core terms will largely remain, and the former No 10 is reluctant to lower his demands further.
Pressure on president Osmar Stabile has intensified since Tuesday night, after the announcement of Memphis’s departure, and this may have influenced the move to reopen negotiations.
The backlash on social media was matched by pressure from sponsors who view Memphis as important for brand exposure. Among those to express dissatisfaction were Ezze Seguros, which has slowed talks over its own renewal, and Esportes da Sorte, the club’s current main sponsor.
Fatal Fans has proposed an addendum to its deal with the club, offering R$ five million solely to help keep the forward. Talks between the club and player are taking place independently of that offer.
Memphis joined Corinthians in September 2024, when the team were fighting to pull clear of the Campeonato Brasileiro relegation zone.
He has made 79 appearances, contributing to 35 goals, with 20 scored and 15 assists, and lifted the Campeonato Paulista, the Copa do Brasil and the Supercopa do Brasil.
