Corinthians back to winning ways as academy stars net three after two years

On the evening of Thursday (5th), Corinthians hosted Capivariano at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), at the Neo Química Arena, for the sixth round of the first phase of the 2026 Paulista Championship and won 3-0, with goals from Dieguinho, Gui Negão, and Kayke. With this result, Timão repeated a feat that hadn't happened in over two years.

The Paulista Alvinegro won a match with three goals from academy players, something that hadn't happened since June 28, 2023. On that day, Corinthians faced Liverpool, from Uruguay, in the last round of the group stage of that year's Copa Libertadores.

On that occasion, Corinthians was already eliminated from the competition, and coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo chose to field an alternative team. The young players seized the opportunity and secured a victory precisely by 3-0, with goals only from Filhos do Terrão. The scorers were: Matheus Araújo, Felipe Augusto, and Adson.

All three have since left Timão. Matheus Araújo was transferred to Ceará and remains at the club to this day. Felipe Augusto was transferred to Cercle Brugge, Belgium, and is now at Trabzonspor, Turkey, where he is in good form. Adson, on the other hand, was sold to Nantes, France, and returned to Brazilian football in 2024 to play for Vasco, where he remains this season.

In last Thursday's game, the context was different, but the young players took advantage of the chance again. Dorival Júnior chose to field an alternative team aiming for the upcoming Sunday classic against Palmeiras and saw the young players shine, especially in the second half, when Dieguinho, Gui Negão, and Kayke scored the goals for the Corinthians victory.

After facing Capivariano in Itaquera, Corinthians remains focused on the Paulista Championship. Next Sunday (8th), at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), the Alvinegro will face Palmeiras at the Neo Química Arena for the seventh round of the first phase of the state championship.
