Corinthians visit Estudiantes at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi in La Plata on Wednesday at 21:30, the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals, aiming to carry a lead home.
According to Meu Timao, the Brazilians have faced the Argentines five times, winning four and losing once, scoring eight and conceding two.
The clubs first met on 26 January 1936 at the Fazendinha, where Corinthians won 1-0 through Teixeira.
The dominance continued in friendlies, a 1-0 victory at the Pacaembu in 1982 courtesy of Zenon, then a 5-1 win there in 2009 with Jorge Henrique netting twice, William, Souza and Otacílio Neto also on target. That 2009 match doubled as a presentation game after the club announced Ronaldo Fenômeno.
Their first official meetings came in 2023 in the Sudamericana quarters. Corinthians edged the first leg 1-0 at Neo Química Arena via Gil, Estudiantes levelled the tie 1-0 in La Plata through Mauro Méndez after one minute, then struck the woodwork four times. Timão advanced 3-2 on penalties, Cássio saved one and two more efforts hit the frame, before later going out to Fortaleza in the semi-finals.
After Wednesday, Corinthians host the return in Itaquera on 16 September at 21:30. The winners will meet Flamengo or Independiente del Valle of Ecuador in the Libertadores semi-finals.
