Corinthians basketball knocked out of Copa Super 8 after loss to Minas

On the morning of this Sunday (25th), Corinthians visited Minas Basquete at Arena UniBH in a quarter-final match of the Copa Super 8 and ended up being defeated by a score of 87 to 79. With this adverse result, the Alvinegro Paulista is out of the knockout competition.

To start the game, coach Jece Leite fielded the following team: Davaunta Thomas, Victão, Rafael Munford, Elyjah Clark, and Lucas Cauê. The bench had the following options: Matheus Jamelão, Kaique, Raymundo, Gabriel Novaes, Cauê Borges, and Tico Faria.

Corinthians started the match at a disadvantage on the scoreboard. The team led by Jece Leite took more than three minutes to score their first two points, but after gaining offensive momentum, they managed to react and turn the game around still in the first quarter. However, Timão ended up conceding a tie in the final moments of the initial ten minutes.

In the second period, the alvinegro team showed offensive improvement and began to control the match, opening a lead that reached ten points over Minas. Before the break, however, the Minas team reacted and reduced the difference, taking the duel to the locker room with the score of 43 to 37 in favor of Corinthians.

The second half was marked by a drop in Timão's performance. In the third quarter, Minas went on an 11 to 4 run and took the lead. From then on, the game remained balanced, with constant lead changes on the scoreboard. In the last period, the home team took control of the actions and stayed ahead for most of the final ten minutes. Even with a Corinthian attempt to rally, the match ended with Minas winning 87 to 79.

With the setback against Minas, Corinthians turns its attention to the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). The club continues to seek an unprecedented Copa Super 8 title, a competition where their best performance occurred in the 2022/23 season, when they eliminated Minas in the quarter-finals but were surpassed by Sesi Franca in the semi-finals, ending the campaign in fourth place.

Timão's next commitment will be precisely for the NBB. The team returns to the court on February 7th, at 4 PM, when they face Fortaleza Basquete Cearense at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium.
