Corinthians president Osmar Stabile says Memphis Depay's future hinges on external partners, as the club cannot fund a renewal within its current budget. The forward's deal ends on 20 June 2026.
According to Meu Timao, he said at Thursday's São Jorge statue unveiling outside Neo Química Arena that Corinthians would welcome partners to meet the costs, otherwise short-term commitments and a tight budget make continuity unfeasible.
His board has focused on clearing obligations to avoid more sanctions after 2025 transfer bans, paying R$ 10 million to a CNRD instalment and a debt to Toluca for the 2024 signing of Pedro Raul.
Last Friday the club named Asarock Asset Management and Genial Investimentos CTVM to manage the arena funds, replacing REAG/Arandu Investimentos, which is under investigation by São Paulo prosecutors for alleged tax evasion, money laundering and fuel fraud.
An early task for the new managers is to reconcile an accounting error of nearly R$ 100 million in the stadium's statements, involving gate receipts that never reached the club's cash.
Any extension would require revising terms and renegotiating a R$ 40 million debt from bonuses. The deal includes a signing-on fee, appearance, goal and assist bonuses, plus salary and image rights of about R$ three million a month.
Esportes da Sorte had covered part of his pay, but after renewing the sponsorship this year, roughly R$ 57 million is no longer dedicated solely to him. Talks could run into the World Cup, when the Dutchman could be out of contract.
Depay is continuing his recovery and is expected to miss Sunday's game against Vasco at Neo Química Arena.
