Corinthians contact Memphis over debt in bid to avoid new transfer ban | OneFootball

Corinthians have contacted Memphis Depay’s representatives to discuss a R$ 77 million debt for unpaid bonuses and to try to avert another FIFA transfer ban, according to Globo.com.

A club director proposed a meeting for next week, date to be set. Corinthians also suggested keeping the payment model from the unsigned renewal.

That plan is R$ 42 million in four semi-annual instalments of R$ 10.5 million from February 2027. Memphis had accepted the R$ 42 million figure, but the board now estimates R$ 77 million with fines, interest and charges.

A FIFA claim could trigger a registration ban. Corinthians already have three active transfer bans tied to debts of about R$ 21.5 million.

After president Osmar Stabile said he would not renew a contract that was ready to sign, Memphis strongly criticised the board on social media. Despite fan backlash and pressure from groups at Parque São Jorge, Stabile’s allies do not see the renewal being revived. Memphis is also not minded to revisit contract talks, despite his affection for the club.

The debt talks are also an attempt to deter Memphis’s camp from seeking the full value of the unsigned two-season deal. His representatives consider there was an agreement even without signatures, which could justify a claim of US$ 20 million, around R$ 103 million, while the club believes it is legally covered by not proceeding.
