Corinthians’ Deliberative Council has suspended councillor Mario Mello Junior for six months for entering the fifth floor at Parque São Jorge during the attempted return by ex-president Augusto Melo in May 2025.

According to Globo.com, the Ethics Commission had sought his expulsion, but after Mello requested leniency at Monday’s hearing the plenary opted for suspension. The decision has stirred concern that it could let previously expelled councillors and former presidents challenge sanctions in court, arguing they were not offered a vote on a milder penalty.

In June, Maria Angela, Paulo Juricic and Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé were expelled over the same effort to reinstall Augusto Melo.

Mello accepted guilt and a conviction, and members voted only on the sanction rather than on guilt, treating conviction as certain. His punishment was reduced compared with others, reflecting his arguments, his record at the club and the specific extent of his involvement.

The same session also expelled Manoel Ramos Evangelista, known as Mané da Carne, and Marcelo Mariano. Both asked the plenary to weigh suspension or expulsion, with absolution not an option.

Mané da Carne was expelled for threats to councillor Suzy Miranda in 2022 and for allegations of racism during a 2023 council meeting. Mariano was judged for his role in the VaiDeBet case, which led to a criminal complaint and the impeachment of Augusto Melo.
