Corinthians councillor Felipe Ezabella has petitioned the courts to partially suspend the General Assembly on 20 June, which is due to decide on statute reforms. According to Meu Timao, he says the base text contains legal errors and had already been rejected by the Deliberative Council.
He argues the Assembly should debate only matters voted for and approved by the Council, which he maintains did not happen. Ezabella also criticises the process, alleging an edict by suspended council president Romeu Tuma Júnior was ignored and that the Ethics Committee was chosen personally.
In his view, the Council’s rejection of the base text means there is no need to convene the Assembly to change the Statute.
On 22 May, club members asked a judge to validate holding the meeting, and an injunction was granted within hours confirming the vote for 20 June. His filing references that ruling by judge Rafael Viotti Schlobach.
Ezabella reiterates the draft was turned down by the Advisory, Fiscal and Deliberative councils. He also recalls a prior edict stating only proposals approved by councillors would reach the Assembly, and notes the planned vote later that year did not take place.
The judge will now decide whether to accept or reject his request. A favourable ruling could suspend the Assembly, otherwise it proceeds as scheduled. Members are set to vote either to uphold the Council’s 29 May rejection or to approve the Commission’s draft, with the option to append highlighted items or keep the Statute unchanged.
