Corinthians’ cup win gives TV Globo top Sunday ratings since 2022

On the late afternoon of this Sunday (21), Corinthians visited Vasco at the Maracanã Stadium for the second match of the Copa do Brasil final. In a balanced game, Timão relied on the strength of their attack and, with goals from Yuri Alberto and Memphis, won 2-1, securing their fourth championship in the competition – the previous titles were won in 1995, 2002, and 2009.

The historic match brought joy not only to Corinthians fans but also to TV Globo, which broadcasted the duel on free-to-air TV and achieved the best audience in the time slot (early Sunday evening) in Greater São Paulo since the coverage of the second round of the presidential elections on October 30, 2022, won by Luís Inácio Lula da Silva.

Between 6:00 PM and 8:03 PM (Brasília time), the match gave the broadcaster an average of 25.1 points and an impressive 48% share (proportion of televisions turned on). The peak audience of the broadcast occurred in the final moments of the match, when, with the approach of Corinthians' fourth championship, the broadcaster reached 30.2 points in the São Paulo capital.

However, the performance was not a record in this year's Copa do Brasil, as the Derby between Corinthians and Palmeiras in the return of the round of 16 reached an average of 29 points in Greater São Paulo. It is worth remembering that according to Kantar Ibope Media, which provided the numbers, each audience point in the city represents 77,488 households, or 199,313 people.
