Gustavo Henrique struck for Corinthians in a 2-1 defeat to Cruzeiro at Neo Química Arena, yet his impact remained clear. The centre-back’s timing comes on the eve of another Libertadores showdown.
According to Meu Timao, since arriving in 2024 the 33-year-old has 16 goal contributions in 116 appearances for the club, with 12 goals and four assists. Of these, 11 were decisive, either opening the scoring, equalising, or restoring the lead.
That run began on 22 February 2024 when he set up Wesley for the opener in a 3-0 win over Cianorte at Estádio Willie Davids in the Copa do Brasil first round.
In 2026 he is enjoying his most decisive campaign for Corinthians with eight direct goal involvements. Four have come in the Libertadores and one proved key in a trophy win, the assist for Gabriel Paulista to start a 2-0 victory over Flamengo at Mané Garrincha on 1 February in the Supercopa do Brasil.
His latest contribution against Cruzeiro was stylish. Twelve minutes into the second half, Rodrigo Garro’s deep free-kick drew a misjudged punch from goalkeeper Otávio, and the number 13 volleyed in to level the match.
Corinthians now host Rosario Central of Argentina in the Libertadores round of 16 second leg on Thursday 20 in Itaquera, kick-off 21:30. He could again be influential.
