Corinthians director on poor result, Depay missing from match

Corinthians was defeated 3-0 by Cruzeiro in a match with individual errors and performances below the fans' expectations. The football executive Fabinho Soldado spoke about the result and commented on the absence of Memphis Depay, who was diagnosed with an injury after the Majestic.

“A very bad result. We were talking in the locker room and acknowledged that Corinthians couldn't perform in the proposed scheme. About that, the result speaks for itself. Football always gives us the opportunity to turn things around at some point. This defeat is very hard, painful, but what we have to do is face this journey. I've had several defeats like this, and we need to learn from what didn't go well. We need to correct all this, and we've already made the necessary interventions”, said the executive to Gazeta Esportiva.

Memphis Depay was out of the match after suffering a knee sprain during the classic against São Paulo. Imaging exams identified a bone edema in the area. This is the sixth injury for the 31-year-old player this season, and with the new physical problem, his absence period in 2025 reaches 73 days.

“Situations that happened, this absence was one more. Two exams were done that found something there, and the medical team decided he shouldn't be in the game. We have to face these situations. We'll see how it goes during the week, talk to the medical team, but the treatment has already started. It's football, it happens”, commented Soldado.

“That's why we talk about squad qualification, we need to continually improve the team, because there are numerous competitions and players get injured. They might not be in such a good phase, and the rotation is very high”, he added.

Possibly without Memphis, Corinthians' next match is only on Sunday (30), for the 36th round of the Brasileirão. The Neo Química Arena will host Botafogo, starting at 4 pm (Brasília time), with Timão looking to get back on the winning track.
