Corinthians edge past São José in tight clash, climb to fourth in NBB table

On the evening of this Tuesday (11), Corinthians returned to the court for another match in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). Playing at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium, Timão hosted São José and, in a game where defense was decisive for the final result, the team secured a home victory by 78 x 64.

It was the fourth consecutive win for the Alvinegro in the competition, allowing them to climb to fourth place in the overall NBB standings, now with six wins and two losses in eight games played. Now, however, the team takes a break from the national tournament and travels to Paraguay, where they will compete in the quarterfinal phase of the South American League (LSB) against Regatas Corrientes-ARG, Defensor Sporting-URU, and Deportivo San Jose-PAR.

For Tuesday's match, coach Jece Leite started Corinthians with a lineup consisting of Elinho, Davaunta Thomas, Elyjah Clark, Victão, and Gabriel Novaes. On the bench and available were Tico Faria, Alisson Venancio, Lucas Cardoso, Lucas Cauê, Munford, Kaique, and Kauan Raymundo.

São José started the game by taking the lead after offensive errors from Corinthians, forcing Timão to react. Although Clark, Novaes, and Elinho cut the deficit with good plays, the Alvinegro team continued to struggle and saw São José maintain control and finish the period ahead, taking advantage of greater efficiency in finishing.

At the start of the second period, Corinthians continued to make offensive mistakes, allowing São José to extend the lead with a three-pointer. However, Timão began their comeback, supported by strong performances from Thomas, Munford, and Tico Faria, leveling the score and managing to take the lead before halftime, closing the first half ahead 41 x 39.

Returning for the third period, Corinthians came back even better, imposing an intense pace and good team plays to increase the lead in the opening minutes. The defensive performance was also a highlight, with the team allowing only nine points to São José in the quarter and heading into the final period ahead 62 x 48.

In the final ten minutes, São José tried to respond, but Corinthians continued to control the game, widening the gap with Clark and Munford. Despite a brief reaction from the visitors that cut the difference, Timão ended up tying the period at 16 points, confirming the 78 x 64 victory at Wlamir Marques in the end.
