Corinthians beat Platense 2-0 in the Copa Libertadores group opener at the Estádio Vicente López, ending an eight-year wait for a win in Argentina and snapping a nine-match winless run this season.

Their previous victory there came in 2018, a 1-0 success over Independiente in the group stage, sealed by a Jadson goal. Meu Timao provides a full list of the club’s fixtures in Argentina since 2018.

Since that 2018 result, they had nine matches in Argentina without a win, five draws and four defeats. Those four losses came consecutively between 2023 and 2025, against Estudiantes, Argentinos Juniors, Racing and Huracán, all in the Sul-Americana.

The five draws came earlier, against Racing, Boca Juniors twice, Argentinos Juniors and Newell's Old Boys from 2019 to 2023, two in the Sul-Americana and three in the Libertadores.

With Santa Fe of Colombia and Peñarol of Uruguay drawing 1-1 in Group E's other fixture, Corinthians lead the group on three points after matchday one.

They host Santa Fe at the Neo Química Arena next Wednesday at 21h30. Before that, Fernando Diniz's side face Palmeiras at home on Sunday at 18h30 in a Brasileirão derby, part of the 11th round.
