Corinthians have ended their pursuit of Portuguesa forward Renê after submitting a loan offer this week, Itatiaia reports.

The proposal carried no loan fee, only a shop window payment, with a pre-agreed share of any future sale.

Portuguesa prefer a permanent deal and have priced 80 percent of the player’s economic rights at 750 thousand euros, around R$ 4.5 million. Renê is their leading scorer this season with seven goals in 11 matches.

Corinthians have prioritised free transfers and loans at the start of the year due to finances, with total debt near R$ 3 billion. In that context, the club chose not to advance.

Another centre-forward considered in recent days was Arthur Cabral of Botafogo, in talks that could have involved Pedro Raul. Time is also a factor, the exceptional window for players who featured in the 2026 state championships closes on Friday, 27 March, at 19:00.

Dorival Júnior currently has Yuri Alberto, Memphis Depay, Gui Negão, Vitinho, Pedro Raul, Kayke and Kaio César as attacking options. Beyond the starting pair, none has secured a consistent run, and Kaio César has faced fitness issues.

Corinthians visit Fluminense next Wednesday after the FIFA break, kick-off 21:30 at the Maracanã, in the ninth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
