Corinthians’ Ethics and Discipline Commission has unanimously approved a report recommending the expulsion of former president Andrés Sanchez over alleged personal use of the club corporate card. The procedure opened in late January reached its final step on Monday.
According to Gazeta Esportiva, the panel endorsed rapporteur Leonardo Pantaleão’s opinion five days after he issued it. Delivered after Sanchez’s defence filed final written submissions, Pantaleão, who chairs the commission and is vice-president of the Deliberative Council, dismissed claims of procedural nullity.
His opinion rejected arguments that there was no internal regulation for corporate card spending and that such use was institutionally tolerated. He said the lack of a specific rule did not prevent good-faith separation of official and personal expenses, and also dismissed any confusion between cards.
The document also rejected claims that some disputed expenses were institutional and that partial reimbursement reduced the case’s relevance. It said the ethical and disciplinary gravity justified recommending expulsion.
The opinion was sent to the other four members and was approved ahead of deadline by Mario Mello Junior, Adilson Carvalhal Junior, Rodrigo Bittar and Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé. It passed by five votes to zero.
Next, the recommendation goes to the president of the Deliberative Council, currently Pantaleão after Romeu Tuma Júnior took leave, to convene a vote. There is no deadline, it is not likely before analysis of Corinthians’ 2025 accounts, and councillors could uphold expulsion, opt for a suspension or warning, or archive the case.
