Duilio Monteiro Alves, former Corinthians president, has been made a defendant on a misappropriation charge after a São Paulo court accepted a complaint from the public prosecutor. He is accused of using the club’s credit card for personal expenses during his 2021-2023 tenure, mirroring allegations faced by predecessor Andrés Sanchez.

According to Globo.com, prosecutor Cássio Conserino alleges spending by Duilio at duty-free shops, restaurants, hotels, a hair salon, a nautical store, a clothing website and other venues unrelated to club business. Purchases total R$ 41,822.62, and he is also sought for R$ 31,366.96 in damages.

Judge Elaine Cristina Pulcineli Vieira Gonçalves of the 15th Criminal Court received the complaint but rejected requests to freeze assets, lift banking or tax secrecy, or impose precautionary measures.

Former Corinthians finance manager Roberto Gavioli has also become a defendant, as in the Sánchez case. The accused have up to 10 days to respond through counsel, after which hearings for testimony, questioning and evidence will follow.

Duilio remains under investigation over dealings with companies suspected of being shell firms. In a statement, his defence said the decision marks only the formal start of proceedings, noted the court’s refusal of restrictive measures, and expressed confidence that the facts will be clarified through due process.
