Since 2016, the club have featured in Conmebol tournaments every season, recording six Libertadores and six Sudamericana appearances.

Exits on away goals followed against Nacional in 2016, Racing in 2017 and Colo-Colo in 2018. In 2019 they reached the Sudamericana semi-finals, losing 4-2 on aggregate to Independiente del Valle.

In 2020 they fell in pre-Libertadores to Guaraní, again on away goals. In 2021 they failed to progress from Sudamericana group E.

In 2022, under Vítor Pereira, they delivered their best Libertadores run since 2012, beating Boca Juniors in the last 16 before losing to Flamengo in the quarter-finals.

In 2023 they went out of the Libertadores groups, then reached the Sudamericana semi-finals, where Fortaleza won 3-1 on aggregate.

In 2024 they again advanced deep in the Sudamericana, knocking out Red Bull Bragantino and Fortaleza, with Hugo Souza saving three penalties before losing 4-3 on aggregate to Racing.

Nine straight league wins at the end of 2024 earned a 2025 pre-Libertadores berth, but they were eliminated and later failed to reach the Sudamericana knockouts. They return to the Libertadores this year as 2025 Copa do Brasil winners, with the draw on 18 March.
