Corinthians eye bigger goals after 31st Brasileirão round

Corinthians solidified their position at the top of the Brazilian Championship table by defeating Grêmio 2-0 on the afternoon of this Sunday, November 2, in the 31st round of the national competition. With this result, the Alvinegro finishes the round in tenth place with 42 points (11 wins, nine draws, and 11 losses – 34 goals scored and 35 conceded.)

The victory increased the Alvinegro's distance from the relegation zone to 11 points, as Vitória – with 31 points in 31 games – was defeated by Cruzeiro 3-1 at the Mineirão Stadium last Saturday afternoon. Completing the Z4 are: Fortaleza (28 points in 30 games), Juventude (26 points in 31 games), and Sport (17 points in 30 games).

The victory also brought Corinthians closer to securing a spot in the next edition of the Conmebol Libertadores. The seventh-placed team, Fluminense, has 47 points in 31 rounds, five more than the Corinthians team, with seven matches remaining until the end of the competition. It's worth noting that the team from Rio lost to Ceará, 2-0, at Arena Castelão.

Between Fluminense and Corinthians on the table are: São Paulo (44 points in 31 games) and Vasco da Gama (42 points in 31 games). Regarding Grêmio, a direct opponent of Alvinegro this afternoon, the advantage is now three points.

Positions from 11th to 16th include: Grêmio (39 points in 31 games), Ceará (38 points in 31 games), Atlético-MG (37 points in 31 games), RB Bragantino (36 points in 31 games), Internacional (36 points in 31 games), and Santos (33 points in 30 games).

Corinthians will return to the field next Wednesday, November 5, at 7 p.m. (Brasília time), at the Cícero Souza Marques Stadium, to face Red Bull Bragantino in the 32nd round of the Brazilian Championship.
