Corinthians fine Martínez after red card in defeat to Cruzeiro

Midfielder José Martínez was fined by Corinthians due to his expulsion in the match against Cruzeiro, during the 35th round of the Brasileirão. Besides playing only 17 minutes, he will be absent for Timão in the next round, which takes place against Botafogo at the Neo Química Arena.

“We talked, me, Dorival, and Fabinho, and we decided to fine the player. That's settled. Moving forward, let's focus on the next game. In a few days, we'll have another match. Let's close this matter, it's been resolved and everything is fine,” said President Osmar Stabile in the mixed zone at the Copinha launch event.

According to GE, the player remains integrated with the squad until the end of the season. Martínez is the player with the most expulsions this year, totaling five. In the latest incident, he had to leave the field for elbowing Matheus Pereira from Cruzeiro in the back. The VAR recommended and the referee accepted the punishment.

Last month, the Venezuelan had already been financially penalized for missing six days of training led by Dorival Júnior, before the classic against Santos. He did not inform the management and had a salary deduction, in addition to having to contribute to the team's fund.

As mentioned, the next game is against Botafogo at the Neo Química Arena. The match is scheduled for Sunday (30), for the 36th round of the Brasileirão. Without Martínez, Dorival Júnior is also unlikely to have Memphis Depay, who is recovering from a knee edema.
