Corinthians full-back slams refs, dreams of Brazil call-up

Corinthians lost to Red Bull Bragantino 2-1 in the 32nd round of the Brasileirão, in a match held at the Municipal Stadium Cícero de Souza Marques, but the refereeing ended up being the main protagonist of the game. In an interview in the mixed zone after the match, left-back Matheus Bidu emphasized how referee Edina Alves' decisions harmed Timão.

“It's an extremely bitter result, right? I think that besides the result, some refereeing decisions also harmed us a lot, this has been happening for a while. But now we have to focus, work in the coming days, we know we have an extremely important game on Sunday and we will look for the victory.”, said the player.

“I think it also interferes a lot with the results. We work intensely every day, but unfortunately, due to an error in the criteria that we don't understand in refereeing, it harms the games. Not just this game, but in other games too, it's hard to understand the decisions. Sometimes there's a lack of a little coherence, you know? But we keep working, we know that regardless of the situation, we have extremely important games ahead. Now it's focusing on our next objectives.”, he continued.

Matheus Bidu also lamented that controversial refereeing decisions harm the work done by the team and unbalance the players on the field. The left-back also pointed out a possible penalty for Corinthians that was not reviewed by VAR.

“It's complicated, we keep giving our all all the time, day by day, giving our all in the games. We came from three positive results and we know that, regardless of our effort, a refereeing error can harm us, as it harmed us again today, with two decisions there that were a little doubtful.”, he commented.

“There was also a play at the end that I think could have called VAR for a penalty, right? But we keep working. I think regardless of the errors, I think there's nothing to do, keep working on it and look for positive results.”, Bidu continued.

“We work to keep calm, but there are moments in the match that it's uncontrollable, I think decisions end up affecting the field, affecting the work and it's a little difficult to control the emotions, right? But now it's about staying cool, keeping our feet on the ground, knowing that we have an extremely important game on Sunday and looking for the victory at home.”, he completed.

Matheus Bidu also commented on the incident that led to Charles' expulsion and disagreed with the refereeing decision. Additionally, the left-back also pointed out that when José Martínez was sent off in another incident, Edina Alves showed a look of regret.

“She just said she heard, I think from the fourth official, that Charles hit Jhon Jhon. From what we saw, it didn't really hit his face, but that was the decision on the field, unfortunately, I think there was a mistake on her part. But there's nothing to do unfortunately, many times the referee makes a decision and we don't understand.”, said the player.

“Just like with Martínez's yellow card, I felt she was a little lost there because when she saw he already had a yellow, she made a face like she shouldn't have given the yellow. But unfortunately, these are decisions that hinder us on the field.”, he completed.

Finally, the Corinthians left-back also spoke about the dream of being called up to the Brazilian National Team. In recent call-ups, Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti has been giving opportunities to several players from Brazilian football, with Timão's goalkeeper Hugo Souza being one of them.

“I work hard every day to represent our country. We have to be prepared regardless of the situation, the moment. Obviously, I dream of this, maybe one day being able to wear the Brazilian National Team jersey. I think it's one of the goals in a professional career. But now it's about continuing to work, focused here at Corinthians and looking for bigger goals.”

Corinthians now returns to the field next Sunday (9). Dorival Júnior's team will face Ceará in the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at the Neo Química Arena.
