Corinthians Futsal ace hails team, eyes finals, future undecided

On the evening of last Thursday (27), Corinthians defeated Campo Mourão (Paraná) at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium, with a score of 3 x 2, coming from behind, in the return match of the National Futsal League (LNF) semifinals. In the first game, the Alvinegro had also won 1 x 0 and reached its fourth final in the tournament's history, something that hadn't happened since 2022.

After the match, Marlon, the scorer of one of Timão's goals, spoke to the press in an interview, where he celebrated the team's result: “I think today was a special night for us. The gymnasium had an indescribable atmosphere, let's say. I think the game's story also made it an even more beautiful night. We fall behind and have to turn the game around, give our all during those 40 minutes, have to reverse it, which makes the game even more important.”

He spoke again about his time at the club, stating that he is enjoying it. “I am very happy to be here, I am very happy that my teammates are helping me, the technical staff, the staff, everyone made me feel very comfortable and I am very happy to be contributing things that I believe have added a lot during these playoffs to raise the team's level a bit and for us to reach this great final”, he explained.

Marlon praised the presence of more than 5600 fans in the gymnasium, adding a projection of his future plans after the end of the season: “The Corinthians fans are really impressive. Today the atmosphere was sensational, it really is different, but I still want to have these final games to focus on that. And after that, I'll see what happens. There's already something in the works, we'll try to sit down and talk later to see if there's any possibility there (of staying at the club).”

He shared his impressions of the audience throughout the knockout stage. “I think each playoff game brought more people. This shows that the fans are really believing in us and we are fully aware of how important they are to us, to really elevate our level of attention, quality, the level to be playing and competing at the level we competed, let's say, in the last 30 minutes. So we are very grateful to the fans”, he emphasized.

The athlete spoke about the anxiety that takes over before decisive games, like this Thursday's: “Even at a certain age, having played some finals, having played elsewhere, there's no way around it. On game day, you spend the whole day thinking about the game, feeling a bit more anxious, but I think that's the beauty of our sport, it's about preparing yourself, knowing that this level of attention is special, because at game time you have to be at your 100%, otherwise it's very difficult to achieve the goals.”

He also praised the quality of the group of teammates, who reached the final of all the tournaments they competed in this year: “It's an amazing group, a really cool group, especially the younger guys are also very open to listening and I think that's why we are evolving and growing with each playoff game. So there's a lot of quality in these young guys from Corinthians, I really liked the people and I think that's why we managed to reach both finals.”

Marlon also projected the two finals that Corinthians futsal will face, in the Paulista and in the LNF. “You can expect our utmost dedication, for sure we have really arrived at the party now, we are going to play two finals and we want to win both titles, we know it's very difficult, that it's quite complicated, but we grew at the right moment, we have been playing excellent games in the playoffs and have every chance of winning”, he concluded.
