Marquinhos, a Corinthians academy graduate, has become Brazil’s most decorated footballer after lifting his 43rd career trophy as Paris Saint-Germain beat Aston Villa 2-1 to win the Uefa Super Cup.

The PSG captain played the full 90 minutes at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria. He recorded nine defensive actions, five ball recoveries, one interception, one tackle and one blocked shot.

The Super Cup was his 40th title with PSG, including back-to-back triumphs in Uefa competitions, the Champions League and the Super Cup. The club marked the milestone in a social media post, noting his 40 trophies in Paris and 43 overall.

The win moves him past former full-back Daniel Alves at the top of the Brazilian list. He is three short of Lionel Messi’s 46 overall. Already a club great, he became PSG’s record appearance-maker in April 2024 and is now on 524 matches, having surpassed Jean-Marc Pilorget.
