Corinthians Grande movement slams Andrés Sanchez for meeting with Caixa

Chapa 82, known as Movimento Corinthians Grande (MCG), released an official statement repudiating the presence of Andrés Sanches at a recent meeting with Caixa Econômica Federal to discuss the Neo Química Arena debt. The same political group had previously filed a request for the removal of the former president due to the improper use of the club's corporate card.

“Movimento Corinthians Grande categorically repudiates the presence of Andrés Sanchez at a meeting with an important creditor of the club. It is unacceptable that a former president, under investigation by the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office for alleged crimes committed against the club, should participate in this or any other similar event,” published MCG on Instagram.

The meeting took place last Monday, attended by Osmar Stabile, the current president of Corinthians, who was seeking to negotiate better terms for the debt with the bank. The board is trying to reduce the interest rate, currently at Selic +2% per year (approximately 18%). The surprise, however, was the presence of Andrés, which had not been communicated to the current management.

According to Stabile, the participation of the former president was not known to the board. The situation sparked a strong reaction among fans, organized supporter groups, and political groups, who considered the scene an affront. Andrés is under investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office for alleged use of corporate card funds for personal benefit during his administration in 2018.

One of the disputed invoices was acknowledged by him, and he reimbursed the club. Others, however, are still under investigation, as are expenses recorded during the administrations of Duilio Monteiro Alves and Augusto Melo. In Duilio's case, investigations are advancing toward possible crimes of fraud and embezzlement.

The request for Andrés' removal, filed by MCG in July, has not yet progressed. It is up to the council members to decide whether the measure will be put to a vote.

MCG is in opposition to Renovação & Transparência, the political group of Andrés and Duilio. At the beginning of 2024, they supported Augusto Melo, but distanced themselves after the VaideBet scandal. The slate is composed of names such as Felipe Ezabella, Fernando Alba, Sérgio Alvarenga, Wagner Mohallem, and Rozallah Santoro.

Felipe Ezabella, a member of the Advisory Council (Cori), was against Augusto Melo's invasion in May, when the former president, already removed, tried to forcibly retake power. Fernando Alba and Rozallah Santoro, who held positions in Augusto's administration, also broke with the former leader during the political crisis that hit the club.

It is unacceptable that a former president, under investigation by the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office for alleged crimes committed against the club, should participate in this or any other similar event.

We emphasize that, at the time of the events, we requested the opening of proceedings with the Ethics and Discipline Committee and other competent bodies of the club, in order to determine responsibilities, promote reimbursement to Corinthians, and apply the appropriate sanctions, all in accordance with the Social Statute and Brazilian law. So far, we have learned from the press that the request was forwarded by the Chairman of the Deliberative Council to the Justice Committee, but there is no information about its progress.

Once again, the serious ethical, moral, and legal crisis that marks the recent administrations of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista is laid bare. MCG will not shy away from fighting it.
