Corinthians head of medical steps down, hits out at club president

Throughout this Friday, October 17, André Jorge resigned from his position as head of the Corinthians medical department. According to information from Meu Timão, the departure occurred due to disagreements between the medical department and the club’s board in the daily routine at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava.

In an interview with ge.globo, the professional revealed that he had already resigned from the position when Corinthians hired Ricardo Galotti to take over his role and also mentioned political influence in the choice of the aforementioned professional. He also emphasized that his departure from Alvinegro has no connection to the high number of absences from the team in recent months.

“Two months ago, President Osmar came in and hired the doctor from São Paulo (Ricardo Galotti) to take my place. I resigned that day because everything was done in secret, even from Fabinho (Soldado, football executive). He (Stabile) said it was a request from Fran Papaiordanou’s political group (club advisor). At that time, the president did not accept my resignation, restructured the department, and kept me as head. But since then, some things have happened to undermine me, some mismanagement of my work.”

“No, not at all. Corinthians is the club that recovers players the fastest in Brazil. Reverson (fitness coach) and Bruno (physiotherapist) do an incredible job. Bruno brought over R$ 1 million in new equipment for Corinthians through a barter deal. All top-of-the-line things that the club didn’t have. The fans criticize the physical preparation, but they work very hard for the club, for the squad. A player sitting out is money down the drain,” he began.

Next, he commented that the uncertainty regarding his employment contract with the club was something that bothered him. André also praised football executive Fabinho Soldado, exempting him from the situation: “Fabinho always supported me. I called Fabinho today and explained my reasons. Then, Osmar called me saying he would try to keep me. He said he would sign my renewal contract today, but it’s just empty talk. I’ve been trying to talk to him for weeks. He never answered me, never said anything. Fabinho tried to reverse it, but I handed in my resignation.”

“The guy (Ricardo Galotti) came in from the middle to the end of the season without knowing our processes and our standards, but he was the president’s man. They didn’t renew my contract, I complained again to President Osmar and they replied that the club was facing financial difficulties. So, I gave an ultimatum,” he continued.

Finally, he spoke again about how much the political situation at Corinthians hinders and interferes with the work of the club’s employees at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava: “Unfortunately, it really hinders our work. I really regret the political side because they (political groups) don’t think about the club. I told the president: ‘Working at Corinthians with support is already difficult, now without support it’s impossible. There is one very serious person inside Corinthians, which is Fabinho. Osmar knows absolutely nothing about football. The one who keeps the club running is Fabinho.’
