Corinthians’ social headquarters at Parque São Jorge were defaced with graffiti aimed at Memphis Depay after the club’s Copa Libertadores elimination.

According to Meu Timao, the walls were vandalised on Wednesday night with two messages that targeted the forward and referenced his salary, following his contract renewal in August.

The flashpoint came in the final minute at Neo Química Arena. Referee Jesús Noel Valenzuela Sáez consulted VAR for a handball by Estudiantes defender Tomás Palacios, awarded a penalty to Corinthians, and Depay sent the kick over, confirming the exit.

It was Depay’s third missed penalty for Corinthians. In regulation time he has converted two and missed three of five attempts, a 40% success rate.

The Dutchman is under contract until June 2028. He is set to be available to Fernando Diniz on Sunday when Corinthians host Fluminense at 16:00 in the 28th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, as they look to halt a run of five straight league defeats.
