Corinthians hit attacking milestone not seen for six months

Corinthians hosted Mirassol at the Neo Química Arena on the night of last Saturday, October 4th, for the 27th round of the Brasileirão, and defeated their opponent 3-0, with goals from Maycon, Yuri Alberto, and André Luiz. With this result, Timão reached a milestone that hadn’t happened in six months.

The Alvinegro Paulista hadn’t won a match by a three-goal margin since April 5th of this year, when they beat Vasco by a score of 3-0, also at the Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the 1st round of the Brazilian Championship. On that occasion, the goals were scored by Yuri Alberto, Memphis Depay, and João Victor (own goal).

Since then, 35 games have gone by without the team winning by at least three goals. During this period, the team did manage to score four goals against Internacional, still in the first half of the Brasileirão, but conceded two. At that time, the team was already coached by Dorival Júnior.

The victory against Mirassol, in fact, was Dorival Júnior’s first win by at least three goals in charge of Corinthians, since in the other occasion when the team won by this margin in the season, the coach was still the Argentine Ramón Díaz.

Now, Corinthians will only take the field again after the FIFA break, on the next October 15th, a Wednesday, at 9:30 p.m. (Brasília time), when they will visit Santos at Vila Belmiro, for the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship.
