Corinthians have been hit with a Fifa registration ban this week over non-payment of the José Martínez deal, and could face further embargoes tied to 2024 debts.

According to Globo.com, the club owe R$ 42 million to Talleres of Argentina for Rodrigo Garro, with president Osmar Stabile negotiating since early February without a resolution.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has ordered Corinthians to pay roughly R$ 6 million to Midtjylland for Charles or risk another transfer ban. The board estimate a further R$ 15 million is required to settle the Martínez and Charles cases.

Cash flow is severely strained as liabilities mount. In recent months the club prioritised larger obligations, including R$ 41.2 million to Matías Rojas and R$ 33.4 million to Santos Laguna for Félix Torres.

Smaller debts were left on hold, triggering sanctions in tribunals, including sums related to Maycon, Martínez and Charles.

The club hopes to reach an agreement with Talleres in the coming weeks to clear the Garro balance. Two other cases in the courts could also bring new penalties, involving New York City over Talles Magno’s loan fee and the signing of defender Cacá from Tokushima Vortis for R$ 24 million.

All the transfers mentioned were completed during Augusto Melo’s presidency in 2024.
