Corinthians fell behind, levelled, then conceded late to Flamengo at the Maracanã. According to Globo.com, the defence stood out despite defeat and 17-year-old Iago Machado impressed on debut.
Flamengo’s opener followed a mix-up between Hugo Souza and Fabrizio Angileri. Second-half changes lifted the visitors, with Garro, with his first touch, freeing Kaio César to tee up Gui Negão for the leveller, before Bruno Henrique rose late to decide it.
Hugo Souza made several fine saves that kept the score down.
Machado read danger well, intercepted cleanly and used the ball smartly for a composed first outing. Beside him, João Pedro dominated in the air and produced a goal-line block, arguably his best display for the club.
Matheuzinho and Matheus Bidu added thrust after the break. Raniele screened diligently and Breno Bidon organised play, while Matheus Pereira struggled for tempo and accuracy.
Kaio César injected pace and supplied the assist, while Lingard offered little going forward and Dieguinho was ineffective. Charles pressed and covered but lacked polish, and Milans’ error yielded the corner before a Flamengo goal.
Head coach Fernando Diniz picked a largely reserve side that dug in before the break. He later introduced Garro, Kaio César, Bidon and Matheuzinho, and Corinthians might have returned to São Paulo with a point.
