Corinthians issued an official statement on Thursday night opposing a proposed provisional measure to ban betting operators in Brazil, warning of grave consequences for the domestic game.

Authorised betting firms have become a key revenue stream across the pyramid, sustaining administration, training centres, staff, social projects, women’s football and youth development, with no immediate replacement.

Abrupt rule changes could shrink investment, unbalance competition and jeopardise contracts and multi-year plans agreed under the state’s framework, while ending the regulated market would push consumers to illegal sites without safeguards or tax.

The mobilisation widened on Thursday, with clubs and state federations meeting in the afternoon to align a manifesto, starting with São Paulo’s FPF and later joined by bodies from Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and Minas Gerais. Corinthians are sponsored by Esportes da Sorte in a deal worth up to R$ 200 million per year, running until the end of 2029. The proposed measure remains under discussion in the federal government, and its final scope has not been defined.
