Corinthians keeper called up again by Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil duty

On the afternoon of Monday (3), the coach of the Brazilian National Team, Carlo Ancelotti, made another call-up for the Seleção, this time for the team's matches on November 15 and 18, against Senegal in London, England, and Tunisia in Lille, France, in friendly matches preparing for the 2026 World Cup. Goalkeeper Hugo Souza was once again one of the keepers chosen by the Italian.

This is the fifth time Hugo Souza has been called up to the National Team. The first time was in 2018, when the player was called by Tite for friendlies against El Salvador and the USA. The other call-ups happened this year, all in World Cup Qualifying matches.

Before Hugo Souza, the last Timão goalkeeper called up by the Brazilian National Team was Cássio, an idol of Alvinegro, who played in the 2018 World Cup and was also part of the champion squad of the 2019 Copa América. Among outfield players, the last Corinthians player called up was Yuri Alberto, in March 2023.

In the last FIFA break, the goalkeeper had already been called up and made his debut with the Seleção. The Corinthians keeper played in the match against Japan, but ended up defeated 3 x 2. Now, Hugo is looking forward to another opportunity.

At Corinthians, the situation will be closely monitored. After the FIFA break, the team returns to the field on November 19, one day after Brazil's match against Tunisia, to face São Paulo at home in the Brasileirão. Thus, Hugo may be absent from the derby, opening up a spot for Felipe Longo, Matheus Donelli, and Kauê to compete for the starting goalkeeper position for Alvinegro.

Before defending the Seleção, however, Hugo Souza will have two more commitments wearing the Alvinegro shirt. The goalkeeper will play for Timão in two Brazilian Championship matches, against Red Bull Bragantino this Wednesday (5), away, and against Ceará on Sunday (9), at Neo Química Arena.
