Corinthians keeper celebrates Under-20 Brasileirão start after win

Corinthians faced Grêmio on the evening of Monday (2), in a match valid for the third round of the first phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship, at the Airton Ferreira da Silva Stadium, in Eldorado do Sul (RS), and won by a score of 3 x 1. The goals for Timãozinho were scored by Luiz Fernando ‘Luizinho’, Luiz Gustavo Bahia, and Nicollas. With this result, the Corinthians team takes the second position in the category's Brasileirão with seven points – nine goals scored and three conceded.

A few minutes after the final whistle, still on the field, goalkeeper Matheus Corrêa gave an interview to SporTV and celebrated the start of the championship for the Corinthians team and stated that he dreams of winning the national title in the category. The goalkeeper also projected the break period until the next match: “Good evening, first of all, I thank God for the victory. This is a lot of work. Of course, it's just the beginning of the championship, but we always aim for big things, and that's it. Now there will be a break, we will continue working and keep working and, God willing, seek a championship, aim to be champions“, he said.

Considered one of the great promises of the Corinthians youth categories, Matheus Corrêa, at 20 years old, is currently the fourth goalkeeper of the professional team, behind Hugo Souza, Felipe Longo, and Kauê Camargo. Recently, he had his contract renewed until December 2028 and has accumulated call-ups for the Brazilian youth teams.

In 2026, he was the starter in the Copinha campaign of the São Paulo Cup and today is one of the pillars of the Under-20 team. His great moment in the Corinthians youth categories happened in 2023, when he was decisive in winning the 2023 Under-17 Paulista Championship against São Paulo, in penalty shootouts, at the Alfredo Schürig Stadium, Fazendinha. On that occasion, he saved a penalty that helped the Filhos do Terrão secure the trophy.

In total, he has played 55 games for Corinthians' Under-17 and Under-20, with 33 wins, nine draws, and 13 losses. Matheus Corrêa arrived at Parque São Jorge in 2018 to defend the Under-12 and, since then, has built a trajectory in all categories. The club from Parque São Jorge will now remain focused on the national competition.

Timãozinho will face Fortaleza at the Alfredo Schürig Stadium, Fazendinha, for the fourth round of the national competition. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has not yet released the details of the match – date and time.
