Corinthians keeper eyes away tie, celebrates 100th appearance

On the evening of this Thursday (19th), at 7:30 PM (Brasília time), Corinthians faces Athletico-PR at Ligga Arena, in a postponed match from the second round of the 2026 Brazilian Championship. Currently, the Alvinegro has three points from two games – three goals scored and two conceded, occupying the middle of the table in the tournament standings.

After finishing preparations for the match, goalkeeper Hugo Souza gave an interview to Corinthians TV and previewed the clash against the Paraná team at the former Arena da Baixada, highlighting the difficulty of playing there: “Every game is important for us. We have to approach every game the same way. I think that might be the big difference that has changed in our team in terms of mentality.”

“I believe it will be no different. It will be a very tough game, we know the quality of the opponent. It’s a tough field to play on, we know that by doing our best we are close to victory. Now it’s about working and making the final adjustments to secure the three points,” he began.

Last Sunday (15th), in the 1-0 win over São Bernardo FC, at Primeiro de Maio, away from home, in the last round of the first phase of the Paulista Championship, the number 1 reached 100 games wearing the Corinthians shirt. Signed in July 2024, the goalkeeper took part in the team’s surge in that year’s Brasileirão (from the relegation zone to the 2025 Pre-Libertadores), and was also decisive in winning the Paulista Championship (2025), Copa do Brasil (2025), and Supercopa do Brasil (2026).

Speaking to the club’s official channels, Hugo Souza celebrated the milestone: “I am very grateful to everyone who was part of this. I never get tired of thanking everyone who has been part of this journey we have built. I am very happy to reach this milestone, to reach 100 games with this club and this shirt. A club that embraced me, that made me happy playing football again. A team that gave me joy, that changed my life. I am very happy here. May there be another 100, 200, as many games as there have to be. I want to keep writing a beautiful story here at this club,” he said.
