Corinthians keeper returns to Seleção, eyes international friendlies

Goalkeeper Lelê returned to training with the Brazilian National Team after almost two years away. In February 2024, she suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee during a training session with Corinthians. Last Monday (24), the athlete took part in Canarinho’s first training session in Marbella (ESP), where the team is preparing for friendlies against Norway and Portugal.

The first activity for the Brazilian women included only the players who had already arrived, while the rest of the delegation was expected throughout the day. Lelê gave a positive assessment of the start of training: “It was good, it was light and a bit shorter, because we have a reduced squad. But it was already good to feel the atmosphere and be together with the girls,” said the goalkeeper.

The Brazilian National Team has two friendlies scheduled to close out the season. The first will be on Friday (28), at 3:00 PM (Brasília time), against Norway, at the Municipal Stadium of La Línea, in the province of Cádiz, Spain. Then, the team faces Portugal on December 2, at 4:45 PM (Brasília time), at the Municipal Stadium of Aveiro, in the Portuguese city. Lelê highlighted the importance of these FIFA Date matches and the significance of these tests in preparation for 2027.

“They are two very tough national teams. I believe it will be very important for us to finish this preparation period for the World Cup against two great teams, and I hope we can play two great matches,” she said.

The Corinthians goalkeeper also described her call-up by coach Arthur Elias as special after a long period of recovery and absence from Amarelinha’s commitments.

“I felt happy and fulfilled to have this opportunity to represent my country again. I hope to make the most of it so that my name will be called again on the list,” she concluded.

In addition to Lelê, four other Corinthians players are also on the call-up list for the National Team. Defender Mariza, full-back Thaís Ferreira, midfielder Duda Sampaio, and attacking midfielder Gabi Zanotti represent the club during the period of international friendlies.
