Corinthians legal director Pedro Soares has outlined the steps to renew Memphis Depay’s contract, with signature dependent on document exchange, mutual approval and medical clearance.

“It is important to set out the renewal. First, drafts are exchanged. Second, both parties review and approve the documents. Third, the player comes to Brazil for medical tests and, if approved, then signs,” Pedro Soares told Itatiaia.

An agreement is in place and he does not need to sign before returning. He is due in Brazil on Monday, 3 August for medicals, then to formalise a deal to mid 2028.

Finalising after the old deal expired is not seen as a hurdle. Earlier this year the CBF said renewals for existing players can be registered on the BID despite FIFA transfer bans.

Duration was settled after talks. The player’s camp sought three seasons, but accepted a two-year extension, taking the agreement to mid 2028.

Finances were adjusted. Memphis accepted a pay cut and the club will stop paying for housing and security. President Osmar Stabile said accommodation alone cost about R$ 250 thousand per month.

Depay last played on 25 June at the World Cup and has been on holiday. He will undergo routine medicals on return.

Having kept fit, he could feature soon after registration and may be named for the Copa do Brasil second leg against Internacional on 6 August at Neo Química Arena. He has 14 appearances this season, one goal and one assist, and missed March to May with right thigh injuries.
