Corinthians legends host talk at Parque São Jorge

The former striker Walter Casagrande, who came up through Corinthians’ youth academy and was one of the icons of the Corinthians Democracy movement in the 1980s, gave a lecture titled “On the Penalty Mark” at the Corinthians Theater in Parque São Jorge. The event took place last Tuesday night (2).

Other former players who had successful stints wearing the Corinthians jersey were also present, such as former full-backs Zé Maria and Wladimir, former midfielder Márcio Bittencourt, and former striker Ataliba. The director of Corinthians’ Cultural Department, Rafael Castilho, also attended the event.

During the conversation with the audience, Casagrande had the opportunity to recall his life story, sharing memories and daily struggles, which moved those in attendance. In addition, memorable moments of the former striker playing for Corinthians alongside the Fiel Torcida were also revisited.

At the event, the Corinthians Memorial displayed the two main trophies won by Casagrande during his time at Parque São Jorge: the São Paulo State Championship titles of 1982 and 1983, at a time when Brazil was still under a military dictatorship and the Alvinegro – represented by its players – was a social instrument against the authoritarian regime.

In total, Walter Casagrande scored 101 goals in 256 matches for Corinthians (242 as a starter) between February 1982 and December 1984. He also won five titles: São Paulo State Championship (1982 and 1983), Copa das Nações (1985), Summer Tournament (1986), and Copa Bandeirantes (1994).
