Corinthians lose at Paulistano, winning streak ends in NBB

On the evening of Tuesday (23), Corinthians faced Paulistano at Ginásio Antônio Prado Júnior, in their 17th match of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), and were defeated by a score of 86 to 81. With this result, the Alvinegro remains in sixth place in the national tournament with 11 wins and six losses – 28 points. In addition, they saw their streak of three consecutive victories in the competition come to an end.

To start the match, coach Jece Leite lined up the following team: Elinho, Davaunta Thomas, Elyjah Clark, Victão, and Lucas Cauê. The bench options were: Jamelão, Kauan Raymundo, Rafael Munford, Kaique, Gabriel Novaes, Alisson Venancio, Tico Faria, and Lucas Cardoso.

Corinthians started the game imposing themselves on their opponent and turned the score around, which had been unfavorable, in the first half, making good use of their performance in the paint. The Alvinegro won the first quarter 23 to 20. In the second quarter, the club from Parque São Jorge maintained their good performance and relied on long-range shots from Elinho and Munford to extend their lead, ending the second quarter ahead 21 to 19.

In the third quarter, Corinthians maintained defensive solidity at the start, with good performances from Elinho, Elyjah Clark, and Lucas Cauê. However, still in the third period, the Parque São Jorge club faltered and allowed their opponents to cut into the lead. Even so, they won the quarter 24 to 23. In the fourth and final period, however, Jece Leite's men dropped in performance and were defeated 24 to 13. Thus, the loss in the final period led to defeat in the match: 86 to 81.

Now, the Parque São Jorge club will return to the court next Saturday (29), at 4:00 p.m. (Brasília time), at Ginásio Wlamir Marques, against Caxias do Sul, for their 18th match in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB).
