Corinthians lose NBB opener to Minas after late collapse

On the evening of this Saturday, the 18th, Corinthians made its debut in the 2025/26 edition of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). In a match held at Arena UniBH, Timão played a competitive game against Minas, leading for much of the game, but ended up suffering a comeback in the last period and was defeated 83 x 81.

The team remains in Minas Gerais, as the next match will be against Cruzeiro, taking place this Tuesday, the 21st, at 8:30 PM (Brasília time). Following that, Alvinegro will participate in the first phase of the South American League, where it will be one of the seeded teams, facing three teams at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium between the 24th and 26th of this month.

To face Minas this Saturday, coach Jece Leite started with a lineup consisting of Elinho, Gabriel Novaes, Elyjah Clark, Davaunta Thomas, and Victão. During the match, Tico Farias, Kaique Victor, Kauan Raymundo, Munford, and Lucas Cauê were also used.

The match was balanced from the start, with Minas taking the lead in the first quarter, winning 23 x 20. Corinthians reduced the gap in the second quarter, going into halftime trailing 44 x 42, and turned the game around in the third quarter – which ended with a partial score of 62 x 56 for the alvinegros. In the final period, however, the home team became efficient in attack again, turning the game around and winning 83 x 81.

Despite the defeat, Davaunta Thomas stood out among the Corinthians players, scoring 21 points and leading in rebounds with a total of five. Elinho, on the other hand, recorded nine assists, being the leader in this aspect.
