Corinthians marked 116 years on Tuesday, with tributes flooding social media from athletes, former players, club officials and public figures.
According to Meu Timao, Memphis Depay was among the first from the current squad to post, sharing a club video narrated by Basílio about the Biquinha at Parque São Jorge and saying he is forever proud to be Corinthians.
Known officially as the Fonte de São Jorge, the spring sits at the social HQ behind the Alfredo Schürig ground. Created in 1941 and blessed that year in a multi-faith ritual, it features a statue of São Jorge and a restored Portuguese mosaic, and carries a legend that anyone who drinks there supports Corinthians for life.
Gabriel Paulista, Zakaria Labyad, Jesse Lingard and director of football Iris Sesso also shared messages, while women’s player Gi Fernandes joined in. Club idol Neto revisited his record, citing 228 games, 86 goals and three trophies.
Hugo Souza, João Pedro Tchoca and Pedro Raul posted stylised images from their spells. Andressa Alves shared goal celebrations and underlined her pride in the so-called Bando de Loucos.
Academy prospects Iago Machado, Léo Amistá and Luiz Gustavo Bahia charted their journeys through the ranks. In court sports, futsal pivot Rick and team-mates, plus coach Fernando Malafaia, sent birthday messages, and basketball captain Victão and colleagues did likewise.
Beyond the club, Hortência reflected on her bond with Corinthians and the power of the Fiel, and Health Minister Alexandre Padilha reposted a fireworks video to congratulate the club. Conmebol and the FPF’s Paulistão account also marked the 116 years, spotlighting icons from the men’s and women’s teams.
