Corinthians’ Cultural Department has paid a fresh tribute to Roberto Rivellino on his 80th birthday. A Corinthians TV video shows director Rafael Castilho visiting the club icon at home to celebrate his legacy.
As reported by Meu Timao, Castilho stressed Rivellino’s permanent place at Parque São Jorge, recalling the bronze bust unveiled in 2014. The visit focused on honouring his contributions and long bond with the club.
The film also opened his private museum, curated by his son Rodrigo. Highlights included the shirt worn in Brazil’s 1970 world title campaign and a jersey signed by Diego Maradona, who counted Rivellino among his idols.
For Corinthians, he played 474 matches, starting 467. He scored 144 goals and delivered 120 assists, achievements built in a difficult era yet met with consistent respect from supporters.
His exit turned turbulent after the 1974 Campeonato Paulista final defeat to Palmeiras, when sections of fans and media blamed him. Used deeper to aid marking, his reduced attacking influence prompted what were seen as disproportionate criticisms, and he was moved to Fluminense soon after.
Rivellino said he never had problems with the fans during nearly 12 years at the club, despite Corinthians’ issues. He also underlined the club’s lasting place in his life and the opportunity it gave him.
Castilho closed the visit by presenting a commemorative plaque. He also invited him to see the new Museu do Povo facilities at Neo Química Arena and the Memorial at Parque São Jorge.
