Corinthians maintained a perfect start to the Libertadores group stage with a 2-0 win over Independiente Santa Fe at Neo Química Arena.
According to Meu Timao, this opening mirrors four previous group-stage campaigns.
Back-to-back victories in the first two rounds match 1996 and 2016. In 1996 they beat Botafogo 3-0 and Universidad Católica 3-2. In 2016 they saw off Cobresal and Santa Fe, both 1-0.
In 2003, Corinthians went further by winning their first three, defeating Cruz Azul 1-0, Fénix 2-1 and The Strongest 4-1.
The side led by Fernando Diniz can also target the club’s best historical start, set in 2015. Under Tite, they beat São Paulo 2-0, San Lorenzo 1-0 and Danubio 2-1 and 4-0 before drawing with the Argentinians.
This season’s pair of 2-0 wins began with victory over Platense of Argentina. The unbeaten run will be tested on 30 April against Peñarol at 21:00 in Itaquera.
Leaders of Group E with six points, Corinthians head into the 12th round of the Brasileirão on Saturday, away to Vitória at 20:00 at Barradão in Salvador.
