Corinthians midfielder: Defeat stings, but performance was good

Corinthians returned to the field for the Brazilian Championship on the night of this Sunday, 28th, hosting Flamengo at the Neo Química Arena in a match valid for the 25th round of the competition. After squandering offensive opportunities in the first half, including a missed penalty by Yuri Alberto, the Alvinegro opened the scoring early in the second half with the number 9, but ended up conceding a comeback, losing 2-1.

After the match, midfielder Raniele spoke to the press in the mixed zone, describing the feeling after the setback in Itaquera: “Feeling like crap. We leave sad, upset, for the game we played. We worked all week to nullify the alternatives Flamengo had. We managed, but it wasn't enough. I like injustice. But many times we played poorly and won, and we didn't complain. So, we’ll dwell on it today and come back tomorrow to work so we can play well on Wednesday.”

According to him, the locker room felt the result. “The atmosphere after the defeat is horrible. But it's what we say. We won some games and get to the locker room and we say we shouldn't think we're Real Madrid, because the next day we have to work. So, in the same way, it's with the defeat. We lost today, with this horrible taste. A taste of injustice too. But we have to dwell on it today and tomorrow we’ll be at the training center,” he said.

Asked about the fans' feelings, especially those who gathered with the team during the week, Raniele said the team fulfilled the commitment to improve performance, even with the negative result: “The people, as far as I know, were all very respectful, very calm. They really demanded and they are within their rights. The performances in recent games were heavily criticized, and with all due respect, today we can't complain (about that),” he said.

He continued: “Really, I believe we played well today. Results happen. There were games where we played very poorly. Games where we played very poorly and came out winners or drew the game. And today we played very well and ended up losing. When we drew or won the game, we didn't complain. So today we have to swallow this taste of football injustice and move on to the next. There's nothing to do. And tell them that we are trying, working to improve and achieve our results.”

Corinthians' next game will be against Internacional, on Wednesday, October 1st, at 7:30 PM. The match will be valid for the 26th round of the 2025 Brazilian Championship and will take place at the Beira-Rio stadium, in Porto Alegre.
