Corinthians midfielder open to contract talks if club interested

On the afternoon of this Sunday, 21, Corinthians returned to the field for the Brazilian Championship. In a match valid for the 24th round, Timão went to Ilha do Retiro to face the last-place team, Sport, and after an uninspired performance, was defeated by 1 x 0. With this, it continues with 29 points earned and, at the end of the round, will leave the first half of the national tournament's classification table.

After the match, midfielder Maycon spoke to the press in the mixed zone, where he stated that he has not yet spoken to the board about a possible renewal of his contract: "No, we haven't talked yet. I think there's a lot we're still discussing. Especially in the Brazilian we're in a situation that we're not so comfortable with, we have a decision in the Copa do Brasil there. I think at the right time, if it's for the club's will, we'll talk."

He added, still on the subject, stating that he is willing to talk, but also understands if he leaves the club in December. "If they think there is interest in, once again, us talking, I'm willing. But I also know that at some point I'm going to have to leave and I leave it to the board to decide that moment. If not (interested in renewal) I have to prepare because I know that at some point I'm going to leave and I'm happy for the story I built", he said.

After the stumble in the Northeast, Corinthians keeps its focus on the Brazilian Championship, and on the next day 28, a Sunday, at 8:30 pm (Brasília time), receives Flamengo at Neo Química Arena for the 25th round of the Brasileirão.
