Corinthians midfielder travels but set to miss Copa do Brasil final

On the afternoon of this Sunday (21), at 6 PM (Brasília time), Corinthians faces Vasco da Gama at Maracanã for the second leg of the Copa do Brasil final. In the first leg, held last Wednesday (17), the teams drew 0-0 in Itaquera. If there is another draw, the decision will be made by penalties.

Despite traveling with the entire squad to Rio de Janeiro, according to Central do Timão, midfielder Charles is expected to be left out of Corinthians' bench due to an injury. The club has not yet detailed the nature of the player's physical problem.

Charles was signed by Corinthians in the July 2024 transfer window after a stint in Danish football. Since then, he has been part of the team's rise in the 2024 Brasileirão (from the relegation zone to the Libertadores qualifiers) and was part of the state championship-winning squad in 2025, against Palmeiras, in Itaquera.

In total, he has played 61 matches wearing the Corinthians jersey (29 as a starter), with 33 wins, 20 draws, and only eight losses – a 65.03% success rate. Additionally, he has scored two goals and provided one assist. Since his arrival at Parque São Jorge, the number 35 has not yet established himself as a starter, being mostly used as a substitute.

In the 2025 Copa do Brasil, Corinthians has already eliminated Novorizontino (third round), Palmeiras (round of 16), Athletico-PR (quarterfinals), and Cruzeiro (semifinals). In total, there have been nine matches, with seven wins, one draw, and one loss – 10 goals scored and two conceded. A three-time Copa do Brasil champion (1995, 2002, and 2009), Corinthians is seeking its fourth title after 16 years. Since then, they have been runners-up twice (2018 and 2022) and reached the semifinals twice (2023 and 2024).
