Corinthians must trim squad for final Women's Club World Cup list

Corinthians is approaching its debut in the FIFA Women's Club Championship, the first-ever Women's Club World Cup in football history, and will have to make roster adjustments before traveling to England. To comply with the competition's regulations, the club will need to leave seven players off the final registration list for the international tournament.

The Brabas take the field on January 28, when they face Gotham FC from the United States in the semifinal at Gtech Community Stadium in London, at 9:30 a.m. (Brasília time). The winner will play for the title against the victor of the match between Arsenal (England) and AS FAR (Morocco).

The alvinegra delegation concluded the initial stage of preparation at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava this Friday and is scheduled to depart next Tuesday. However, not all current squad members will make the trip. With defender Thaís Regina injured—she suffered a fracture in the fibula of her left ankle—Corinthians currently has 33 eligible players, a number above the limit set by the regulations.

FIFA stipulates that the final list for the Women's Club Championship must include between 23 and 26 players, with at least three goalkeepers required. As a result, seven players will remain in Brazil during the World Cup.

Players left off the final list will continue training with the club and may be called up if a substitution is needed before the debut. Corinthians is expected to officially announce the list of 26 registered players, although no date has been set for the announcement.

Before the final decision, clubs were required to send FIFA a provisional list, consisting of at least 24 and at most 35 players, including at least four goalkeepers. This document is for internal use by the organization and may be changed in specific situations.

The final list is the official tournament registration. Only the players included in this list will be eligible to play in the Women's Club Championship, and all must have been on the previously submitted provisional list.

The regulations allow changes to the final list only in cases of serious injury or illness, subject to detailed medical evaluation. For outfield players, substitution requests must be made up to 24 hours before the debut—in Corinthians' case, by 9:30 a.m. (Brasília time) on January 27.

FIFA reviews the documentation through its Medical Committee and, only after approval, authorizes the change. The player removed from the list loses accreditation for the competition.

For goalkeepers, the procedure is similar, but with an important difference: substitution can occur at any time during the tournament, provided a serious injury or health problem is proven, always with FIFA's medical approval.

The coaching staff also follows specific criteria. The provisional list may include up to 75 members, but only 12 professionals make up the final list. The regulations also require a minimum presence of women in the coaching staff and medical department, and specify that part of the officials on the bench must be female.

FIFA covers accommodation and meal expenses for up to 26 players and 12 members of the coaching staff, as well as providing support facilities such as meeting rooms, treatment areas, laundry, and three meals a day. The coverage period runs from January 24 to February 2.

On the other hand, Corinthians will be responsible for additional costs, such as delegation insurance, expenses for members exceeding FIFA's coverage limit, as well as extra food items, equipment, and facilities not provided for in the regulations.
