Corinthians near loan of overage full-back to Série D club

Out of the plans of the professional football department, Corinthians is close to reaching an agreement to loan right-back Gabriel Caipira, 21 years old, to Betim, from Minas Gerais, who will compete in the Série D of the Brazilian Championship this season. The information was initially released by Rádio TMC last Friday (27).

The player, at the end of last year, had renewed his contract with Corinthians until December 2026, as it was set to expire at the end of January this year, after the end of the Copinha. However, in the final stretch of preparation for the competition, Caipira suffered a stress fracture in his tibia. Since then, he had been training separately and recently recovered from the injury.

Additionally, according to TMC, the right-back is expected to sign a contract extension with Corinthians before being officially loaned to the team from Minas Gerais. According to the report, this detail is still being negotiated between the parties. It is worth noting that Gabriel Caipira aged out of the youth team right after the 2026 Copinha.

TMC also revealed that the player had conversations with other Brazilian teams, but negotiations did not progress due to the injury he suffered – mentioned at the beginning of this article. If Corinthians negotiates the player, they will have until March 3rd – the date the transfer window closes – to finalize the situation.

According to TMC, Corinthians’ idea is to loan him out so they can eventually use him in the professional team. Recently, the club agreed to the departure of two other players who aged out of the youth team: defender Fernando Vera, who transferred to ZTE in Hungary, and midfielder Thomas Lisboa, loaned to JK Tammeka in Estonia. In both cases, the club from Parque São Jorge retained a share of the economic rights.

Developed in Corinthians’ youth academy, Gabriel Silva, known as Caipira, played a total of 121 matches for the club’s U-17 and U-20 teams (34 for the younger team and 87 for the older), scoring four goals. In addition, he recorded 65 wins, 26 draws, and 30 losses. The player was part of the squad that won the 2024 Copinha against Cruzeiro and was the team captain in the runner-up finish in the same tournament the following year.

Last season, he was the main assist provider for the U-20 with six assists. Throughout his time in the youth ranks, he played alongside other “Sons of Terrão” such as Gabriel Moscardo, Wesley, and Breno Bidon – the latter still in the Corinthians professional team, while the first two now play in Europe for Braga, Portugal (owned by PSG, France) and Real Sociedad, Spain, respectively.
