Corinthians’ number 10 shines for the Netherlands in World Cup qualifiers

On the afternoon of this Friday (14th), the Netherlands faced Poland at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw, for the seventh match of the European Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, and drew 1-1. The goal for the Netherlands was scored by the forward Memphis Depay, from Corinthians, two minutes into the second half.

Coach Ronald Koeman started the match with: Verbruggen; Geertruida, Timber, Van Dijk, and Van de Ven; Ryan Gravenberch, Frankie de Jong, and Justin Kluviert; Donyell Malen, Gody Gakpo, and Memphis Depay. The Polish team took the lead at 43 minutes of the first half, when the Corinthians' number 10 lost the ball to Zielínski, who set up a counterattack that ended with a goal by Jakub Kaminski.

Memphis Depay equalized the match early in the second half. The Dutchman took advantage of a rebound from goalkeeper Grabara after a header by Malen. The result left the Netherlands at the top of Group G with 17 points (five wins and two draws – 23 goals scored and four conceded).

The Corinthians player was on the field for 88 minutes and, according to Sofascore, accumulated the following stats in the match: 39 actions with the ball, 16/20 accurate passes (80%), two shots (one on target), 1/2 successful dribbles (50%), 1/4 aerial duels won, 3/7 ground duels won, 4/4 accurate passes in their own half (100%), and 7/16 accurate passes in the opponent's half. His rating was 7.5.

The Netherlands will return to the field on the next day 17, Monday, at 4:45 PM (Brasília time), to face Lithuania at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, for the eighth match of the European Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
