Corinthians’ number 2 shines in club’s full-back rankings this century

On the evening of last Saturday, September 13, Corinthians visited Fluminense at the Maracanã Stadium in a match valid for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship and won by a score of 1-0. With this result, the Alvinegro rose to ninth position with 29 points (seven wins, eight draws, and eight losses – 24 goals scored and 28 conceded).

The Corinthians goal was scored by right-back Matheuzinho, from a free kick, in the final stretch of the second half. With this goal, the number 2 became the fourth in his position with the most free-kick goals for the Parque São Jorge club in the 21st century – two. He surpassed Fábio Santos, a notable club idol, Roberto Carlos, Roberto Carlos, and Ronny, all with one. The ranking can be seen by clicking this link.

The data was released by journalist Tomás Rosolino on his account on X, formerly Twitter. Ahead of Matheuzinho are Dyego Coelho (nine), Rogério (six), and André Santos (four). Previously, the other free-kick goal by the Corinthians number 2 was scored on August 11. On that day, the Alvinegro lost 2-1 away to Juventude, at the end of the first round of the 2025 Brasileirão.

Besides standing out in the Corinthians ranking this century, the right-back is, alongside forward Hulk, the player with the most free-kick goals in this edition of the Brasileirão – with two. The difference is that the Atlético-MG player needed 18 attempts, while the number 2 needed only three to reach the same number. The numbers were released by DataFut on X, formerly Twitter.

Since joining Corinthians at the beginning of 2024 from Flamengo, Matheuzinho has accumulated 93 matches (65 as a starter), with 41 wins, 26 draws, and 26 losses – a little over 53% success rate. Additionally, he has scored five goals and provided five assists. This year, he has three goals and three assists.

Matheuzinho has one title with Corinthians: the 2025 Paulista Championship, against Palmeiras, at the Neo Química Arena. The Parque São Jorge club will return to the field next Sunday, September 21, at 5:30 PM (Brasília time), at Ilha do Retiro, to face Sport, for the 24th round of the Brazilian Championship.
