According to Globo.com, Corinthians have been ordered by the Labour Court to pay a lump sum pension and damages to former futsal player Allan Barreto after a knee injury ended his career.

Judge Taiguer Lucia Duarte, of São Paulo’s 32nd Labour Court, classified the injury as a workplace accident causing total and permanent incapacity, based on the court expert’s report.

Barreto said he tore the meniscus in his right knee on 27 October 2022 and, despite the injury, was made to keep playing, which he says worsened the damage, led to three surgeries and early retirement in February 2025. He had starred in Corinthians’ 2022 Paulista and National Futsal League wins.

The court granted R$ 50,000 for moral damages and R$ 50,000 for existential damages, and recognised a pension as material compensation for lost earnings.

Corinthians must cover 100% of the salaries he would have earned at the club until he turns 40. He is 36. The pension will be paid in a single instalment with a 30% discount on future payments, and retroactive sums in full. The pension is estimated at about R$ 800,000.

Further sums include roughly R$ 100,000 for a stability period and R$ 223,000 from recognising image rights as salary, taking the package to R$ 1,223,000, subject to change at enforcement.

Corinthians deny a workplace accident, maintain the knee problem was degenerative and dispute the medical findings. The club does not comment on ongoing cases. Both parties have appealed to the Regional Labour Court of the 2nd Region, with Barreto represented by lawyer Ivana Garcia.
