Corinthians outclass Catanduva, stay top in Paulista Women’s Basketball

On the night of Wednesday, October 1st, Corinthians returned to the court for the Paulista Women's Basketball Championship. Playing at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium for the penultimate round of the first stage of the state tournament, the Furiosas hosted bottom-placed Catanduva and, in a game dominated from start to finish, won 80 x 40.

With this result, the team remains at the top of the competition, now with six wins and just one loss in seven games – SESI Araraquara has the same number of points but loses out on basket difference. Now, in the last round of the first stage, Alvinegro will face São José, away from home, next Saturday, the 4th, at 7:30 pm (Brasília time).

Unable to count on Thayná, Tássia, Nega, and Rayssa, who are injured, coach Bruno Guidorizzi sent out a starting five consisting of Alana, Bia, Yasmin, Jaqueline, and Licinara. On the bench, available were Glenda, Tayna, Jamile, Júlia Mansilha, and Tássia.

The match began with complete Corinthians dominance on both offense and defense. Yasmim stood out right from the start, hitting two three-pointers. Catanduva tried to slow the pace with a timeout, but after the restart Corinthians remained superior and extended their lead, closing the first quarter ahead 31 x 8.

In the following quarters, the Furiosas looked to maintain control of the lead, while gradually increasing it. Corinthians won all the remaining periods, respectively by 18 x 14, 17 x 11, and 14 x 7, allowing Alvinegro to finish the game with an 80 x 40 victory.

Several Corinthians players stood out in the game: Glenda and Yasmin led in points, scoring 21 and 18 respectively. Licinara, in turn, grabbed 11 rebounds. Finally, Bia and Alana excelled in assists, with 11 and ten respectively.
